DVD Review : The Raconteurs “Live At Montreux 2008”

Raconteurs

Raconteurs: Live at Montreux 2008 DVD

The Raconteurs also known as The Saboteurs in Australia, is an American super group of sorts, formed in Detroit, Michigan, featuring four members known for other musical projects: Jack White (of The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, and now solo), Brendan Benson (solo), Jack Lawrence (of The Greenhornes, Blanche and The Dead Weather), and Patrick Keeler (also of The Greenhornes). Calling Nashville home, "The seed was sown in an attic in the middle of a hot summer when friends Jack White and Brendan Benson got together and wrote a song that truly inspired them. This song was 'Steady, As She Goes' and the inspiration led to the creation of a full band.

Eschewing the “supergroup” label the band, however, asserted they were not, saying that the term implies something pre-planned or temporary, whereas they are actually "a new band made up of old friends." Whatever you want to call them, when a bunch of guys with this much talent get together, the music takes on a life of its own.

Extremely popular at live shows and festival music festivals in Europe, Asia, and North America (including Oxegen in Ireland; Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, Glastonbury Festival, and T in the Park in the United Kingdom; Heineken Open'er Festival in Poland; Vegoose in Las Vegas; Lollapalooza in Chicago; Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee; Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas; Coachella in Indio, California; and Orlando Calling in Orlando, Florida), this is the first ever video release by The Raconteurs and features tracks from both their top 10 albums including the singles "Steady, As She Goes", "Many Shades Of Black", "Broken Boy Soldier", "Salute Your Solution" and more.

Raconteurs: Live at Montreux 2008 DVD is rough, tough rock 'n' roll with great tunes and even better guitar hooks performed by an outstanding live band. This is what rock ‘n’ roll is all about. Jack White is bluesy, rootsy, and loud on the guitar. Jack Lawrence on the Rickenbacker bass makes it ring with sustain to stand up to Jack’s cutting guitar and Keller’s drumming is virtuosic and  multi-instrumentalist Brendan Benson seems the natural catalyst to round out the band.

“You Don’t Understand Me” Live At Montreux 2008

Eagle Rock Entertainment released Live At Montreux 2008 by The Raconteurs in June. Filmed in high definition, this show is released on DVD and Blu-ray formats. The concert footage is excellent, as befits a band of this caliber, know for their live shows.

Their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers charted at No.2 in the UK and follow up Consolers Of The Lonely went in at No.8. Both albums were also Top 10 in the USA. This performance from
Montreux in 2008 was part of the tour in support of their second album.

If you are looking for a party on a disk, then this one is for you. with the future direction of the band as a unit it the air, this could also be the definitive collection. In an interview in February 2010 Brendan Benson stated that the future of The Raconteurs was ambiguous, stating "I think we're all just really focused on other things." He went on to add that "it will come around and we'll get together again and hang out and maybe make a record or maybe not."
